|Distinguished wrestling author and historian Mike Chapman will be on hand at the first Catch Wrestling Alliance event being held on Saturday, June 7, at Collins Court in the John Wooden Center on the UCLA campus, 221 Westwood Plaza, Los Angeles, California 90095. He will also be displaying many artifacts from the early days of Catch-as-Catch-Can Wrestling.
Mike Chapman’s background includes attending 44 NCAA wrestling tournaments, two Olympics and two Wrestling World Championships as a media person. He created the International Wrestling Institute and Museum in Newton, Iowa (now called the Dan Gable National Wrestling Museum, located in Waterloo, Iowa, the hometown of both Dan Gable and Mike). He created WIN magazine, and the Dan Hodge Trophy, often called “the Heisman Trophy of Wrestling.”
Mike has also put on dozens of events. He ran the Dan Gable Classic for 5 years, bringing in the best U.S. wrestlers to face a top foreign team.
Mike loves Catch Wrestling. Frank Gotch is his No. 1 hero in sports and he has written two books and a screenplay about him. Also, he was the key person pushing for a statue of Frank in his hometown of Humboldt, Iowa. The statue was dedicated last July 4, and Mike was the guest speaker.

We will greatly miss the great wrestler, coach, and gentleman Billy Robinson. The memory of Billy Robinson will be honored at the June 7 event.
About CWA and Catch Wrestling:
The CWA (Catch Wrestling Alliance) is an American organization that promotes and hosts international Catch-as-Catch-Can Wrestling events. The Catch Wrestling Alliance was started by Raul Ramirez in association with Catch Wrestling schools around the world with a goal of reinstating legitimate Catch Wrestling competition globally.
Catch wrestling is a classical, hybrid grappling type of wrestling developed in 1870. It was later popularized by carnival wrestlers who refined new submission holds and hooks to be more effective against opponents.
